FIELD: polymer production. SUBSTANCE: preparation of latex system includes aqueous-emulsion (co)polymerization of at least one ethylenically- unsaturated monomer in presence of (i) latex system stabilization- effective amount of water-soluble protective colloid selected from group including carboxymethylcellulose and its derivatives with lower limit of carboxyl substitution degree ca. 0.7; hydroxymethylcellulose, ethylhydroxymethylcellulose, methylcellulose, methylhydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose, hydrophobically substituted cellulose ethers; polyacrylic acid and its alkali metal salts; oxyethylated starch derivatives; sodium and other alkali metal polyacrylates; water-soluble starch glue; gelatin, water-soluble alginates, casein, agar, natural and synthetic gums, partially or completely hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol, polyacrylamide, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and methyl vinyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymer; and also (ii) polymerization initiator. Invention is distinguished by that (i) above-said ethylenically-unsaturated monomer is monomer selected from group including acrylic acid, butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, acrylic acid esters, styrene, vinyl ethers, vinyl and vinylidene halides, N- vinylpyrrolidone, ethylene, C3-C24-alpha-olefins, allylamines, saturated monocarboxylic acid esters and amides, propylene, 1-butene, 1-pentene, 1-hexene, 1-decene, allyl acetate, allyl propionate, allyl lactate, corresponding amides, and their mixtures, and (ii) above-said water- soluble protective has weight-average molecular weight below approximately 75000. EFFECT: improved mechanical stability of latex. 63 cl, 6 tbl, 23 ex
