FIELD: ceramic industry, more particularly manufacture of majolica or faience products, e.g. decoration process. SUBSTANCE: engobe comprises, wt %: clay, 10-15; kaolin, 25-50; quartz sand, 10-25; diopside, 10-35; and broken glass, 15-20. Engobe is prepared by generally accepted method and finally fired at temperatures from 1000 to 1050 C. EFFECT: greater strength of adhesion with ceramic substrate and higher heat resistance and whiteness. 3 tbl
