FIELD: TV equipment, computer engineering, printing equipment. SUBSTANCE: device may be used in design of color TV sets, devices for displaying color graphic information, color printing devices and color fax machines. The method involves displaying each color image pixel on displaying surface, which is split into regions, each of which has first group region, second group region and third group region, which include respectively one or several segments of first group, one or several segments of second group, one or several segments of third group. Said segments provide possibility to display information about three linearly independent colors within pixels of displayed color image. When color image is displayed, displaying surface is split into sections, which form two- dimensional array and each of which consists of one or several adjacent segments of displaying surface. Then, multiple pixels of displayed image are mapped onto multiple elements of displaying surface in one-to-one correspondence. In addition, each displaying surface element, which is in one-to-one correspondence to one pixel of displayed image, and each linearly independent color, which is displayed on displaying surface, correspond according to condition that amount of information about linearly independent color for displaying by respective element of displaying surface corresponding to respective pixel of image to be displayed is calculated as multiplication of amount information about color in given pixel by value which is equal to number of segments, which are used for visual presentation of information about this color and constitute said element, to number of segments of same group, which form displaying surface. This results in possibility to specify resolution of displayed color image and to improve fidelity for displaying a color image. EFFECT: increased functional capabilities, development of tools for setting resolution of displayed image.
