FIELD: plastic metal working by blasting of explosives; applicable in hardening of working roll surfaces of frog cores. SUBSTANCE: method includes successive laying onto frog core roll surface to be hardened of profiles spacers of inert material and sheet U-shaped explosive charges with height of side members of 18-22 mm with initiating units located on bent ends of charges. Core is installed on metal support with length equal to one third of charges length. In this case, core center of gravity is made coincident with support center. Hardening is effected by detonation wave whose front surface is positioned to hardened core working surface at angle of 50-70 deg.
