FIELD: gas industry, examination of wells to measure parameters of gas-and-liquid mixture without separation of stream. SUBSTANCE: gear has first lens system, laser light source, beam splitter and second lens system connected in series and optical detecting fixture whose output is connected to signal processing unit. Gear is supplemented with two adjustable diaphragms, actuating element and controller which is connected to output of signal processing unit via blocking unit and to adjustable diaphragms via actuating element. One field diaphragm is located between first lens system and optical detecting fixture, second aperture diaphragm is placed between second lens system and gas stream. Measurement bases are created in stream for realization of method by formation of counting volumes and moments of flight of particles over boundaries of measurement base are recorded by optical detecting fixture. Then signals of optical detecting fixture are converted to sequence of voltage pulses with the aid of signal processing unit and are sent into controller via blocking unit. Controller measures parameters of pulses, computes characteristics of gas stream and forms controlling signal for actuating element in correspondence with specified algorithm. Optimum cross-sections of counting volumes are set by controlling signal with the help of adjustable diaphragms. Sequences of pulses that are formed after termination of counting only are let pass to controller with the aid of blocking unit and total number of recorded particles is fixed.
