FIELD: traffic control equipment. SUBSTANCE: device has rack with photodetectors. Output of each photodetector is connected to control inputs of gates of respective analysis units through amplifier and threshold gate. Each analysis unit has serial circuit of gate, pulse counter, delay gate, divider and subtraction unit. Outputs of subtraction units are connected to inputs of OR gate, which output is connected to control input of gate, which performs transmission of data to indication unit. When vehicle passes between rack with light emitters and rack with photodetectors, device measures intervals for interruption of each beam and detects them in respective analysis units as number of pulses with given duration and repetition rate. Thus, produced temporal profile of vehicle keeps geometrical ratio of linear and angular values of vehicle's body. Separate pulse counter detects time, when vehicle passes device. Produced temporal profile is normalized and compared against reference normalized temporal profiles of known vehicles, which are stored in data storage units. Results of comparison provides detection of type of vehicle. EFFECT: increased reliability of vehicle type detection. 2 cl, 1 dwg
