FIELD: medicine, ophthalmology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to design of preparations used for treatment of ophthalmic diseases. Invention proposes: tetrapeptide alanyl-glutamyl-asparagyl-glycine of the general formula Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly as an agent showing capability to stimulate function of eye retina; pharmacological agent containing effective amount of tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly or its salts by amino-group (acetate, hydrochloride, oxalate) or by carboxyl-groups (metal salts of sodium, potassium, calcium, lithium, zinc, magnesium and organic and inorganic cations - ammonium, triethyl-ammonium) as an active component; method of treatment of patients with diseases and pathological states accompanying with disorder of function of eye retina involving prophylactic and/or curative administration to patient the pharmacological agent in the doses 0.01-1000 mcg/kg of body mass, for at least once per a day for period that is necessary for therapeutic effect attainment.
