FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is improved method of preparing 2,4- diamino-6-alkylthio-s-triazines of general formula I: wherein R₁ and R₂ are independently hydrogen, C₁-C₁₂ alkyl, C₃-C₁₂ cycloalkyl, said cycloalkyl substituted by C₁-C₄ alkyls, C₄-C₂₀ cycloalkyl alkyl, said C₄-C₂₀ cycloalkyl alkyl substituted by C₁-C₄ alkyls, and R₃ is C₁-C₁₂ alkyl by cyanochloride with R₁NH₂, R₂NH₂ and reagent containing R₃S group is single water-immiscible solvent in the presence of phase-transfer catalyst in stage where reaction occurs with reagent containing R₃S group. Reagent containing R₃S group is thiol in the presence of acid-binding agent, and phase-transfer catalyst includes quaternary ammonium salts and diazacycloalkanes which are used in amount from 1 to 10 mole % per original cyanochloride, and water-immiscible organic solvent is aromatic C₆-C₁₀ hydrocarbon or C₄-C₁₁ alkanone. The resulting compounds are useful as agents that prevent objects from being overgrown with microorganisms which are exposed to sea water.
