FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves determining patient biological age from X-ray picture of hand and forearm bones and statistical mean value of jaw bone growth potential corresponding to the age. III metacarpal bone length is measured and the bone growth potential value is calculated from formula P=L/Ln x C, where L is the III metacarpal bone length in mm, Ln is the statistical mean of III metacarpal bone length for given age in mm, C is the statistical mean of the bone growth potential in mm/year. Biological age is determined from X-ray picture of hand and forearm bones by determining the following features: 1. sclerosis strip on the capitate bone; 2. articulation surface on the navicular bone; 3. articulation surface on the semilunar bone; 4. sclerosis crown on trapezoid bone; 5. concave area and sclerosis strip on trapezoid bone from the thumb side; 6. hooked bone hook outline; 7. notch on the navicular bone; 8. distal phalanges diaphysis and epiphysis synostosis; 9. ulnar bone diaphysis and epiphysis synostosis; 10. radial bone diaphysis and epiphysis synostosis; 11. proximal phalanges diaphysis and epiphysis synostosis; 12. medial phalanges diaphysis and epiphysis synostosis. Features 2 and 3 being available in women, the age is evaluated as 10 years, features 4, 6 correspond to age of 11 years, feature 5 - 12 years, feature 7 - 13 years, feature 8 - 14 years, feature 7 - 13 years, features 9, 11, 12 - 15 years, feature 10 - 16 years, feature 8 - 14 years. Features 1 and 2 being available in men, the age is 10 years, feature 3 - 11 years, features 4,5 - 12 years, feature 6 - 13 years, feature 7 - 14 years, feature 8,9 - 15 years, features 10,11 - 16 years, feature 8,9 - 17 years. EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness in selecting terms and order of orthodontic and surgical measures. 2 cl, 5 dwg
