FIELD: polygraphy; pre-typesetting layout of prints of any category of complexity. SUBSTANCE: method involves determining text line of desired format for chosen size and type capacity, selecting number of main-composition size lines in complete page of desired format, determining capacity of complete page of desired format, capacity of fresh and end pages depending on desired imposition and number of lines on fresh page, capacity of pages with illustrations made up across them at preset heights of graphics window and number of main-composition lines occupied by picture; it also involves determining capacity of pages with frill composition of pictures at preset size of graphics window and number of frill lines, and also capacity of all incomplete pages of edition, capacity of all complete pages of edition; after establishing number of pages in given author's copy number of physical printed sheets is determined for given edition including printability; upon determining volume of entire edition amount of paper required for run is determined. EFFECT: augmented process, reduced cost due to pre-print layout and choice of optimal process. 4 dwg
