FIELD: atomic engineering; protracted safe storage of plutonium, wastes inclusive. SUBSTANCE: after pressing the starting powder of hafnium dioxide, preliminary sintering of blanks thus obtained is performed at temperature of 1150 to 1250 C for 0.8 - 1.0 hour, after which blank is impregnated with sol of hafnium dioxide, heated at temperature of up to 600 C for 1.0 to 1/5 hours for thermal destruction of hafnium dioxide sol and sintering of blank is performed at 1300 to 1350 C for 0.8 to 2.0 hours, after which blank is impregnated with plutonium dioxide sol and is heated to temperature of 1000 to 1200 C for 1.5 to 3.0 hours; then, protective coat made from hafnium dioxide is applied by dipping the blank in hafnium dioxide sol and it is subjected to thermal destruction at temperature range up to 600 C continued for 0.5 to 1.5 hours; final sintering of article is performed at temperature of from 1300 to 1350 C for 0.5 to 1.0 hour. EFFECT: possibility of obtaining articles with required complex of characteristics at content of HfO2 no less than 98 to 99 mass-%. 2 cl, 1 tbl
