FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing low-viscous, water-soluble polymeric aqueous base dispersions which comprise polymer A with average molecular weight of at least 5•105 Dalton consisting of a1 99-70 wt % of at least one water-soluble monomer, a2 1-30 wt % of at least one water-repellent monomer. Method comprises in first stage preparing aqueous dispersion PD of polymer A and at least one polyelectrolyte with average molecular weight of less than 5•105 Dalton as polymeric dispersant D, in second stage preparing concentrated aqueous dispersion PD' from aqueous dispersion PD by removing water, and in third stage preparing aqueous dispersion PD' by adding aqueous dispersion of said polymeric dispersant D to concentrated dispersion PD'. Said dispersions are stable during storage and are not inflammable and are useful as flocculant in treating sewage as dehydrating agent after separation of aqueous phase, as retention agent in preparing paper, as soil improving agent or as dispersant.
