CONTINUOUS-ACTION UNIT FOR MAKING ARTICLES FROM QUARTZ GLASS (VERSIONS) Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

FIELD: units for continuous molding of tubes or rods from quartz glass by drawing with the aid of revolving tools. SUBSTANCE: proposed device includes housing with heater and melting crucible inside it and system for delivery of quartz grits to melting crucible. Loading area of crucible is located beyond quartz grits heating zone inside cooled cylinder; distance between lower edge of loading pipe and heater is equal to 50 mm and more. Total volume of quartz grits loaded into melting crucible and molten glass is maintained at constant level at each moment of time during entire process. Lower portion of melting crucible whose length is equal to 40- 65% of total length of crucible has form of truncated cone narrowing in way of motion of glass mass; minimum diameter of cone ranges from 40 to 80 % of its maximum diameter. Device is provided with at least one changeable shield fitted in output channel coaxially relative to its axis; it is movable vertically for change of temperature in respective zone of output channel. Prior to delivery of quartz, crucible is filled with broken glass by 60 to 100 %. Heat-insulated housing may be provided with ports at level of crucible base for evacuation of silica and shielding gas vapors from flame space of furnace.
