FIELD: polymer coatings. SUBSTANCE: coating composition, in particular composition for refinishing of cars, contains first compound with at least one bicyclo- or spiro-ortho-ester function and second compound with at least two groups interacting with hydroxyl group and selected from isocyanate, epoxy, acetal, and alkoxysilane groups. Composition hardening process consists in (i) unblocking of protected hydroxyl groups, bicyclo- or spiro-ortho-ester groups in presence of water and optionally in presence of first catalyst and (ii) interaction with second compound optionally in presence of second catalyst. Invention describes method for preparing compound of formula I: (I), which comprises interaction of pentaerythritol with triethyl orthopropionate in presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid in trimethylbenzene as solvent.
