FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: invention is related to processes of measurement of loss in layer of deposit formed on working surface of capacitive detectors of level or humidity used in various branches of industry, specifically, in heat power industry to control level of oil water in crude oil and fuel oil or moisture content in crude oil and fuel oil. Electrodes are coated with layer of insulation. Value of capacitance is converted to voltage of signals of variable frequency. Temperature and level of medium are measured. Voltage of output signals in absence of deposit, voltage of output signals in presence of deposit and voltage of output signal with detector being switched off are measured depending on level of medium at various temperatures. Value of relative loss in insulation coat free of layer of deposit and value of relative loss in insulation coat with layer of deposit are found on basis of obtained results. EFFECT: raised precision of measurement of value of contribution of losses in layer of deposit to summary capacitance of detector of oil water in crude oil and in fuel oil. 2 dwg
