FIELD: light-sensitive materials. SUBSTANCE: invention provides 9-alkylcarbocyanines with 5,6- dioxymethylenebenzthazole residue depicted by formula I: (I), in which A represents lower alkyl; B 5,6-methylenedioxy, 4,5-benzo, alkyl, alkoxy, or halogen; [K]+ trimethyl ammonium, pyridinium, 1,1'-diethylqyino-2,2'- monomethincyanine, or 3,3-diethylthiazolinecarbocyanine; to the exclusion of compounds I wherein A is ethyl, [K]+ trimethyl ammonium, and B 5,6- methylenedioxy group, as spectral sensitizers for photographic silver halide emulsions. Method for spectral sensitization of these emulsions utilizing proposed sensitizers allows one to obtain almost always sufficiently high or higher level of general and additional light sensitivities of photographic layer in visible spectrum region.
