FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: in a process involving treatment of cobalt-containing material through leaching followed by precipitation of cobalt from productive solution, leaching of cobalt is accomplished with 10-15% nitric acid solution, after which nondissolved substances are removed, remaining solution neutralized, and cobalt contained in solution is precipitated by sodium sulfide or ammonia. EFFECT: increased cobalt recovery and reduced production expenses. 1 tbl
