FIELD: forestry and pulp-and-paper industry. SUBSTANCE: machine has cutting mechanism comprising knives contacting one with another and mounted on drive shaft in offset relation one with respect to the other in vertical plane or single knife with several blades. Drive is made in the form of hydraulic cylinder with toothed rack and has toothed wheel engageable with toothed rack and cam clutch. Toothed wheel and cam clutch are mounted on drive shaft. Cam clutch is adapted for converting progressive motion of hydraulic cylinder into rotational semi-tilting motion of knives in single direction and also for providing idle stroke of hydraulic cylinder. Machine is further equipped with brake mounted on drive shaft and designed for fixing knives in the initial position. EFFECT: enhanced reliability in operation and increased efficiency. 4 dwg
