FIELD: steelmaking. SUBSTANCE: steel appropriate for manufacture of cast blanks for machines and mechanisms operated at temperatures up to minus 60 C is composed, wt. %: carbon, 0.18-0.28; silicon, 0.3-0.6; manganese, 0.8-1.3; chromium, 0.3-0.6; copper, 0.1-0.3; nickel, 0.05-0.3; aluminum, 0.01-0.08; calcium, 0.005-0.04; rare-earth metals (novelty), 0.01-0.04; and iron, the balance. Ratio of aluminum to sum of calcium and rare-earth metals lies between 0.5 and 2.0 and manganese-to-carbon ratio equals 4-6. EFFECT: increased impact resistance of steel and improved its cold resistance and weldability. 2 tbl
