FIELD: geological engineering. SUBSTANCE: method involves carrying out electric exploration works. A starting well is drilled and aqueous polynucleate paramagnetic metal salt solution like ferric chloride solution is introduced into the well. The second well is drilled in the direction of flow movement or underground water exit to the ground surface is sought. Electrolyte is pumped repeatedly and water samples are taken in periodical mode from the second well or from the superficial source. The samples are tested using nuclear magnetic resonance method and underground water contamination area parameters are calculated. EFFECT: high accuracy and reliability of the method. 3 tbl
