FIELD: environmental control. SUBSTANCE: invention is related to indicators intended for detection of water, specifically, capable of change of color when exposed to water. It can be used to identify boundary and level of separation of phases between oil products and water in reservoirs, tanks, tankers, fuels tanks, sewage purification works where it is required to control level of water and its amount. Indication strip to determine boundary and level of separation of phases of oil products and water is made of test paper containing tiocyanate complex of cobalt in the form of complex salt of potassium, sodium or ammonium. Tiocyanate complex of cobalt is deposited in the amount of 0.01 to 2.0 parts by mass in proportion to 100.0 parts by mass of paper which is backed up on one side by two-side adhesive tape with separable coat, has dimension ( 3-20 ) x ( 10-200 ) mm and is sealed in polyethylene film. Indication strip can contain background pigment in the amount from 0.01 to 0.1 part by mass in proportion to 100.0 parts by mass of paper.
