FIELD: methods for production of sintact froths and application of them as a heat-insulating coating on the outer surface of pipes used in the areas of permafrost, swampy terrains and under water. SUBSTANCE: the method consists in the fact that the starting components are proportionate, two active components of binder are mixed, the obtained compound is filled with microspheres, the obtained component is poured in for production of heat-insulating material and cured. Each active component of the binder is filled with microspheres separately, then the filled active components of the binder are mixed in definite relations of mass parts. The heat-insulating pipe has a metal body in the form of a body of revolution and a coating made of sintact froth, an epoxy binder filled with glass and/or polymeric microspheres is used as the sintact froth. Mixing of active components filled with microspheres and molding of the coating is accomplished in the method by means of a mixing head and an annular molding chamber combined with it enveloping the rotating and moving pipe, both stages are combined in a single in-process procedure.
