FIELD: production of knitted fabric. SUBSTANCE: method involves reducing loop-formation phases, with loop transferring process being independent of loop-formation process and being performed in parallel with it; extracting thread at its full length from bobbin to needle. Apparatus has transverse knitting system with needle fixing mechanism, gun-type needle driving mechanism, thread withdrawal mechanism and Chet Jack-type thread returning mechanism. Method and apparatus of such construction prevent thread from excessive lengthening. EFFECT: increased efficiency and reduced loop knitting process time. 6 cl, 6 dwg
