FIELD: catalysts for petrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: preparation of catalyst includes precipitation of aluminum hydroxide, addition of molybdenum and cobalt salts thereto, extrusion, drying, and calcination. Method is distinguished by that fractional double-step peptization of aluminum hydroxide with 75-85% moisture is performed first with nitric acid, taken in amounts 0.005-0.010 mole per 1 mole alumina, after which peptized mass is supplemented by molybdenum and cobalt, stirred, and evaporated to 70-72% moisture. Repeptization is then effected with 0.004-0.0275 mole monocarboxylic acid per 1 mole alumina. Subsequent extrusion, drying, and calcination steps give catalyst with uniform radial distribution of pore volume, 60-80% of pores being those with radii between 20 and 70 .
