FIELD: metallurgy; method of processing sulfate- oxide fraction of battery scrap containing lead sulfate. SUBSTANCE: proposed method is based on desulfurizatiopn of sulfate-oxide fraction through interaction with aqueous solution of sodium carbonate at their mass ratio of (2-4):1, reactor temperature of from 23 to 80 C accompanied by mixing pulp thus formed followed by filtration of pulp, thus obtaining filtrate and oxide-carbonate mass. Novelty of invention consists in preparation of sodium carbonate solution directly in reactor by introducing it in solid state till pH of solution gets equal to 10.1-10.3; mixing the pulp is continued to final magnitude of pH of solution 9.0-9.5; after separation of oxide-carbonate mass, filtrate is returned for desulfurization; further treatment of sulfate is performed at concentration of sodium sulfate of 270-320 g/l.
