FIELD: equipment for independent orientation, for determination of orientation of stationary and mobile objects with reference to the Earth. SUBSTANCE: magnetooptical altitude control unit has measurement channel comprising first and second identical orientation channels and optical system. Optical system incorporates first and second identical units which are positioned mutually perpendicular. Unit of optical system includes controllable optical phase modulator, focusing lens and scanister. Orientation channel incorporates differentiator, two comparators, NOR gate, clock pulse generator, delay element and counter. Outputs of orientation channels are outputs of altitude control unit which secure determination of direction of horizontal and vertical components of magnetic field of the Earth. First output of optical system is connected to corresponding input of first orientation channel. Second output of optical system is connected to corresponding input of second orientation channel. EFFECT: simplified design of altitude control unit, increased precision of orientation of stationary and mobile objects relative to direction of intensity vector of geomagnetic field of the Earth. 4 dwg
