FIELD: instrumentation engineering for transport. SUBSTANCE: speedometer is provided with pointer that changes its color depending on vehicle speed. Pointer area changing its color has relatively larger visually perceived size and is characterized in nonuniform glow in space. In addition this pointer area may flicker with time or maintain its original color at certain speed values; it may also repeatedly change its color in case of continuous increase or decrease of speed. Proposed design makes it possible to reduce time taken to change driver's attention over to speedometer to comprehend vehicle speed and even may enable dispensing with such change-over.
