METHOD OF DETERMINING SIALIC ACIDS IN MUCUS OF UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

FIELD: analytical methods in medicine. SUBSTANCE: to determine sialic acids in mucus of upper respiratory tract before and after treatment of bronchopulmonary pathology, lavages from nasal mucous tissue sampled, samples are mixed in test- tube with 7-8% solution of perchloric acid at 1:1.25 ratio. Test-tube is placed in boiling water bath, the contents are then centrifuged, to 1 ml supernatant is poured 0.2 ml Erlich reagent (2.0% solution of p-dimethylaminobensaldehyde in 20% hydrochloric acid), and test-tube is incubated for 50-50 min on boiling water bath. Optical density of resulting colored product is then measured in 10-mm cuvette at wavelength 540 nm. When level of sialic acids is lessened compared to their initial level, treatment is regarded to be effective. EFFECT: expanded possibilities of diagnosing inflammatory activity associated with bronchial pathology utilizing noninvasive technique. 1 tbl
