FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of synthesis of derivatives of polyene alcohol of the formula (I) that can be used in production of drugs, in part, retinal (vitamin A). In compound of the formula (I) R means acyl group; Y means group of the formula (A) where R1, R2, R3 can be similar or different and means hydrogen atom or alkyl group with 1-3 carbon atoms. Method of synthesis of derivative of polyene alcohol of the formula (I) involves interaction of sulfone compound of the formula (II) that can be synthesized by method given below with a base. As a rule, alkaline or earth-alkaline metal hydroxide, hydride or alcoholate are taken as a base. Invention relates also to novel sulfone compounds of the formula (II) where R and Y have values indicated above and Ar means phenyl group that can be substituted with lower alkyl group and to method of their synthesis. Method of synthesis of sulfone compound of the formula (II) involves interaction of compound of the formula (III): Y -CH2-SO2Ar where Ar and Y have values indicated above with halide compound of the formula (IV) where R means values indicated above and X means halogen atom in the presence of basic compound.
