FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to improved method for production of di(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate employed for plasticizing of vinyl resins and other polymers used in production of cable plasticates, genuine leathers, film and sheet materials, inserts, rubber, and other products as well as constituents of oxidation-resistant lubrication oils and hydraulic fluids. Di(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate is prepared by esterification of sebacic acid with excess of 2- ethylhexyl alcohol by heating to 175-185 C and vacuum from 500-550 mm Hg to 150 mm Hgin presence of tetrabutoxy titanate catalyst in amount 0.1-0.15 wt.% of sebacic acid, which catalyst is loaded when acid number of reaction mixture reaches value 37-50 mg KOH per 1 g of substance. Crude ester is treated with 3-4% soda ash aqueous solution to neutralize residual monoester and to decompose catalyst, after which follow distillation of volatiles, blowing-off with overheated live steam, treatment with sorbent mixture including activated carbon, clay, and (additionally) perlite at weight ratio 1:(0.7-0.8):(0.2-0.3), filtration, retreatment with the same sorbent mixture, and filtration.
