METHOD OF PREPARING 2,2,4-TRIMETHYL-3-HYDROXYPENTYL ISOBUTYRATE BASED ESTERS Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: chemistry of polymers. SUBSTANCE: claimed method comprises esterifying mixture of 2,2,4-trimethyl-3-hydroxypentyl isobutyrate (HPB) with 2,2,4-trimethyl-pentanediol-1,3-(PD) with adipic acid or phthalic anhydride in molar ratio of two latter reagents of 1:(6-9) at 80-210 C in the presence of 0.005 to 5000 % by weight of acid anhydride of tetraalkoxytitanium catalyst (tetrabutoxy titanate or tetraisopropoxy titanate or mixture thereof). Ratio of adipinic acid and phthalic anhydride and sum of HPB and PD amounts to 1:(2.1-2.6). Instead of pure PD, its mixture with 2- ethyl hexanol in molar ratio of 1:(1.0-10.0) is used. Product is purified by well known method which includes neutralization by alkali agent, treatment with overheated steam, distillation and filtration. The claimed method increases yield of the desired product up to 98.7% (yield is increased by 2.5 to 11%), makes it possible to use simpler and cheaper equipment in the process, obtain more final products from the unit of volume and reduce category class of production with respect to explosion hazardness, eliminate use of greater safety measures for service personnel and simplify process technology.
