FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: method designed for manufacturing fuel elements for nuclear reactors including liquid-metal-cooled ones includes manufacture of lead tube , its insertion in fuel element can, take-up of auxiliary clearance between can and lead tube by means of drift-pin, treatment of bottom end of can, and welding of bottom plug, whereupon lead-coated can is charged with ceramic pellets which are locked in position within can; upper end of can is treated, top plug is welded in controlled gas medium, and then finishing treatment is made. EFFECT: enhanced uniformity of lead layer between fuel pile and can, facilitated procedure, simplified design of equipment used. 6 cl, 5 ex
