FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed fuel element designed for RBMK reactor fuel magazine built of two fuel assemblies that may be found useful for fuel elements and miscellaneous fuel assemblies wherein local burst of neutrons causing enhanced energy release should be reduced has cylindrical zirconium cladding sealed on one end with plug and on other end, with cap; it accommodates uranium dioxide fuel pellets and spring-loaded pellet-stack retainer; disposed between plug end and fuel pellet abutting thereto is excess neutron absorber in the form of disk made of hafnium-containing material. Provision is made for reducing energy release at fuel element ends in core center to ensure more uniform lengthwise burn-up of fuel. EFFECT: enhanced safety of nuclear reactor. 3 cl, 2 dwg, 1 tbl
