FIELD: analysis of impurities in gases, control over toxic impurities in metal-organic compounds in petroleum refining and chemical industries. SUBSTANCE: technical result of invention lies in provision for stable high sensitivity of detection of toxic impurities of the type of manganese cyclopentadienniltricarbonyl (cymantren) and its derivatives used as antiknock and antiscorching additives to motor fuels. Method of detection of toxic impurities in gas includes conversion of detected toxic impurities to condensation nuclei, mixing formed condensation nuclei with vapors of working fluid, formation of condensation aerosol and determination of concentration of formed aerosol. Toxic impurities are converted to condensation nuclei by action of ultraviolet radiation on analyzed gas carrying toxic impurities in presence of water vapors. Characteristics of ultraviolet radiation, concentration of water vapors in analyzed gas and time of presence of analyzed gas with toxic impurities in irradiated space are chosen from condition of finding criterion K in following limits: K = (C)1/2•P•t = 0,5÷500, where C is concentration of water vapors in analyzed gas, mg/l; P is power of ultraviolet radiation in range of wave lengths 160-200 nm falling at unit of irradiated volume of analyzed gas, mW/cu.cm; t is time of presence of analyzed gas with toxic impurities in irradiated volume, s. EFFECT: increased reproducibility, accuracy and efficiency of method.
