FIELD: mechanical engineering and metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves removing gas-saturated layer by etching to depth of optimal value of micro hardness difference of ΔHVopt of etched surface with respect to core. Said value is calculated from formula: where K1 is coefficient taking into account heating medium, K1=1-2; K2 is coefficient taking into account nature of operating load and presence of structural and geometric concentrators, K2=1-3; σB is temporary resistance, MPa. Method is used for manufacture of articles and semi-finished products from titanium and titanium alloys having gas-saturated layer formed during heating in air and in inert media. EFFECT: increased efficiency by optimizing etching depth of gas-saturated layer and increased cyclic service life of articles and semi-finished products. 1 dwg, 1 tbl, 1 ex
