FIELD: powder metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: proposed powder, featuring extremely low content of impurities, contains, according to invention, from 0.5 to 25% of silicon by weight and it consists mainly of spherical particles with diameter from 0.005 to 10 mcm or of threads formed from said particles. Known method consisting in passing of gas mixture containing iron pentacarbonyl and volatile silicon compound through heated reaction container, heating of mixture owing to heat conductivity and subsequent thermal decomposition of gas mixture, differs from proposed one in which silicon hydride (silane) or organosilane free from halogens, except for trithylsilane and tetraethysilane is used as volatile silicon compound. EFFECT: production of powder with extremely low content of impurities and regulated content of silicon. 7 cl, 1 tbl _
