METHOD FOR POWERED WOOD CUTTING ON FELLING SITES Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: forest industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves bunching trees by means of felling-bunching machine while arranging their apexes at opposite boundaries of track and their butts in central part of track; arranging subsequent two bunches after forming of first bunch by orienting their longitudinal axes in parallel with one another and at an angle of ≪α≫ to longitudinal axis of first bunch, with apexes of first bunch and subsequent two bunches being arranged at opposite boundaries of track; forming groups of bunches following the latter in alternating succession corresponding to arrangement of first bunch and subsequent two bunches. Delimbing machine advances with reciprocating motion with respect to felling- bunching machine to form bunches of long woods (tree lengths) or short logs, with longitudinal axes of bunches being oriented at an acute angle ≪β≫ to axis of track and opposite to angle ≪α≫ of orientation of tree bunch axes to track axis, and succession of alternation of formed bunches of long woods (tree lengths) or short lengths being similar to succession of alternation of tree bunch groups. Method further involves crossing of track by skidding or handling machine at side of track boundary, to which were oriented apexes of parallel bunches of trees sequentially bunched by felling-bunching machine, with limb (apex) windrow formed by delimbing machine being oriented to said boundary of track. Method allows forester's and ecological demands on conservation of undergrowth on developed swaths and trip load capacity of timber haulage vehicles to be provided.
