FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method for preparing water-soluble resin useful as a binding agent for mineral wool. Method involves interaction of cyclic anhydride and alkanoylamine in the molar ratio anhydride to alkanoylamine below or about 2:1 at temperature from 20 to 100 C in the presence of water to yield some products of reaction that form components of binding resin. Invention relates also to resin as a binding agent useful for binding mineral fibers and comprising polymer-free compound and having carboxyl group and/or β-hydroxyalkylamide group. Invention relates also to composition useful for mineral fibers, for example, glass or stone wool comprising resin and binding additive. Invention relates also to method for preparing product representing bound mineral fiber, such as glass wool or stone wool involving application of binding composition on mineral fibers and hardening a binding agent. Invention provides preparing the compound useful for using as a binding agent for products made of mineral wool. EFFECT: improved preparing method, valuable properties of compound. 28 cl, 3 tbl, 12 ex
