SUBSTANCE: universal method for evaluating data transmission speed for all sets of speeds being used to precisely determine data transmission speed through forward and backward channels involves advancing m hypotheses on data transmission speed for each frame being received and shaping frame of demodulated characters for each hypothesis; hypothesis with minimal resolving value is chosen; decoded data characters are additionally checked up for quality to suit given hypothesis using for the purpose data quality metrics of all m hypotheses; decision is then taken on data transmission speed and quality of given-frame decoded characters.
