FIELD: motor-car industry. SUBSTANCE: invention provides method for recovering sum of precious metals from scrap of automobile catalysts by transforming platinum metals into water-soluble state, which is achieved through preliminary moistening of catalyst with aqueous hydrochloric acid followed by oxidative dissolution with known oxidants, for example with nitric acid or hydrogen peroxide solution. Process is carried out for multiple circulation of vapor-gas etching mixture.
