FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to extraction and refinement of platinum-group metals contained in waste materials such as dead automobile catalysts fabricated in the form of honeycomb-shaped cordierite blocks. The proposed method of processing ground scrap produced from dead automobile catalysts envisages dissolution of platinum-group metals in an oxidising acid mixture by way of impulse geyser delivery of portions of the oxidising acid mixture boiling solution onto the scrap from above followed by removal of the resultant useful solution. After that one performs delivery of another portion of the clear oxidising acid mixture until the useful solution turns yellow. Then one performs rinsing with water delivered from above. The proposed method structural implementation enables reduction of the reagents and industrial water consumption.

EFFECT: increase of the solution platinoid content.
