FIELD: mechanical engineering; sealing facilities. SUBSTANCE: proposed sealing ring with variable clearance contains great number of segments stretched along circumference and arranged, as a rule, in slot of dovetail type in fixed part of machine furnished with rotor rotating around axle. Sealing ring includes arc sealing surface opposite to rotor and projections inside dovetail type slot stretched in direction of axial. Pins project in direction of axial from opposite sides of fixed part being arranged between projections and sealing surfaces of segments. Centering ring is installed on pins of each segment. Thermal expansion coefficient of centering ring is greater than that of segment. Centering rings engage projections of segments at first place holding sealing surface of segments in first position with clearance relative to rotor, and catch projections in second place in response to relative thermal expansion of segment and centering rings, providing possibility of displacement of segment along radius at displacement of spring to set second sealing surface into second position with clearance.
