FIELD: rocket engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed technique consists in execution of mechanical tests which results determine load destroying object which is used to make decision on ultimate strength characteristics of solid propellant. Model charge made in zone of attachment from same material and by same technology as tested solid propellant is utilized in the capacity of test object attached to casing of rocket engine. One butt and cylindrical part of model charge bordering on it has length not less than 0.1 x D where D is diameter of charge and is unfastened from casing. Loading is carried out by application to unfastened butt of charge of growing uniformly distributed load causing shear stresses in zone of attachment of charge to casing till structural integrity of model charge in given zone is disturbed. EFFECT: increased authenticity and informativity of obtained characteristics, expanded range of tested propellants, enhanced safety and reduced cost of this operation. 4 dwg
