FIELD: mining industry; applicable in drilling of geological exploration and operating oil and gas wells. SUBSTANCE: method includes breakage of rock on well bottom by rotating drilling shaft. Removal of cuttings from bottom and their transportation to wellhead by circulating drilling mud pumped by pump, establishing by calculation of optimal process parameters of drilling conditions, such as axial load P on rock-cutting tool, rotation speed n and pump capacity Q. With each change of rock on well-bottom and as cutting tool wears, subject to determination are optimal combination of process parameters of drilling conditions P, n and Q by their variation with use of, at least, four combinations, fixing of corresponding values of penetration rate, power consumption for drive of rock-cutting tool and pump, calculation of total specific power intensity, selection of combination of process parameters of drilling conditions corresponding to minimal value of total power intensity and further well drilling with this combination to increase productivity of labor. EFFECT: reduced costs of well construction. 1 tbl
