FIELD: cutting tools, builtup cutters for semifinish, finish and decorative working of metals and non-metallic materials after multiple regrinding of polyhedral cutting tips of diamond, superhard material and hard alloy. SUBSTANCE: each seat is formed by means of supporting plate and basing members in the form of balls welded to supporting plates. Axes of ball centers in seats of set are shifted relative to lateral surfaces of supporting plates sharpened according to entering angles and end cutting edge angles. Number of seats in set may be equal to 5. Method for making set comprises steps of making supporting plate in the form of high-rigidity steel backing; making basing members in the form of balls; joining balls to supporting plate by means of spot welding machine; forming in lower electrode of said machine spherical recesses with depth consisting 0.5 - 0.7 of ball diameter and corresponding to profile of faces of cutting tip; placing balls in said recesses; arranging supporting plate onto them at basing its apex according to changeable stop secured to lower electrode of machine for spot welding in accordance with number of regrinding and shape of tip; then simultaneously welding balls to supporting surface of supporting plate for forming welded zone whose size consists 0.8 - 0.9 of ball diameter.
