FIELD: veterinary biotechnology, microbiology. SUBSTANCE: strain Proteus mirabilis = 26 shows morphological and cultural properties that are typical for genus Proteus. Enzymatic properties: strain ferments glucose, sucrose, rhamnose, maltose with evolving acid and gas but it doesn't utilize sorbitol, indole, citrate and sodium malonate, it hydrolyzes urea, forms hydrogen sulfide but it doesn't form indole and acetylmethylcarbinol. Strain deaminates phenylalanine in reaction Foges-Proscower. By it serological properties the strain is agglutinated with proteus adsorbed O- and H-serum as the strain Proteus mirabilis O13 and H2. Pathogenic properties: value LD50 for white mice in intraperitoneal administration is 1.6 x 107 live bacterial cells. In oral administration to newborn calves in the concentration 10 billion bacterial cells the strain causes diarrhea on 2-3-th day and death of animals on 5-7-th day. Strain is lysed with coli-bacterin bacteriophage. Strain Proteus mirabilis = 26 is resistant to penicillin, streptomycin, laevomycetin, erythromycin and tetracycline and sensitive to oflaxoline, piperacillin, roxithromycin and gentamycin. Yield of bacterial mass is 25-30 billion of bacterial cells in 1 ml. Strain can be used for preparing immune preparations against proteus infections in agriculture animals. EFFECT: valuable properties of strain.
