METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CASE-HARDENING LIQUID RADIOACTIVE WASTES Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

Abstract RU 2218618 C2

FIELD: solidifying liquid radioactive wastes using case-hardening method. SUBSTANCE: cement compound components are fed in batched portions to truck- mounted container and mixed up by means of agitator disposed in container and set in rotary motion by means of electric drive as soon as container is joined with charging unit. Agitator running time is set and automatically checked by means of timer. After container is joined to charging unit lower- and upper-level sensors are mounted therein, their lengths being dependent of salt content of liquid wastes, volume of liquid wastes, and amount of cement compound. Upon ceasing agitation of compound upper and lower level sensors are dipped in container. Then container holding cement compound and agitator is disconnected from charging unit, closed with cover, and conveyed to storage. Device implementing this method has container with agitator mounted on truck provided with lift, clutching gear, agitator drive, lower and upper level sensors of level warning device, charging unit with electrical connector and holes for passing liquid radioactive wastes and cement, electromagnetic valve and its control device, pump, feeder with control device, and timer. Cement compound stirring process is fully automatic and agitator operation is checked by timer. In addition proposed device has no batchers nor means for filling and emptying them. EFFECT: improved quality of cement compound produced; facilitated procedure of cement compound preparation, simplified design of device. 2 cl, 1 dwg
