MORTAR AND METHOD FOR INSTALLATION OF MORTAR ON FIRING POSITION Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

Abstract RU 2219468 C1

FIELD: armaments mainly use of all-round fire mortars in the conditions of a modern combat, designed for installation of mortars on medium-hardness and hard grounds. SUBSTANCE: the mortar has a barrel, bipod mount with a shock absorber and an elevating mechanism and a base plate of an arch shape and consisting of a spherical-shaped base plate with a flanging on the periphery, bowl with a barrel fastening seat located in the center of the base plate and providing an all- round fire, three bulky T-shaped and three flat ribs located below uniformly and in turns in the radial direction and connecting the base plate and the bowl into a single power structure, and three spades fastened on the bulky ribs and providing for installation of the base plate on the ground by three points, according to the invention, the base plate is made with the relations and parameters taking into account the mass of the base plate, maximum kick force of the mortar barrel and the dimensions of its separate members. Besides, the three bulky ribs are made in the form of hump of a three-hump V-shaped section of an alternating height and three bent humps also of the V-shaped section. The shock absorber of the bipod mount is made with a working stroke determined by expression L≥1/3c/sinα, where c - the height of the base plate from the apex of the spades to the edge of the flanging of the base plate; α - angel of barrel elevating; feature of the method is the fact that installation of the mortar by the base plate on the ground is performed with arrangement of the apices of spades on the ground surface, and the mortar barrel with the aid of the elevating mechanism is so installed that the direction of the kick force would pass through the plane of the zone passing through the apices of the spades and restricted by them. Loosening (destruction) of the upper layer of the condensed ground is carried out simultaneously with upsetting of the mortar base plate by the kick force of the mortar barrel as minimum from the first shot, at upsetting of the base plate with the aid of the first shots (more than one) upsetting is performed with a gradual increase from the first to the last shot of the numbers (power) of the propellant charges. Upsetting of the base plate on a hard (frozen) ground at a fire on charges of a low value is carried out by the value of its clearance - projection of the spades over the lowest part of the base plate, and at a fire on high-power charges upsetting is performed by the entire height of the base plate up to its adjoining with the base plate to the ground. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of mortar fire in the conditions of a modern fast combat due to reduced time for preparation of the firing position. 10 cl, 7 dwg
