FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to heterogenous-catalytic conversions of organic compounds, namely, to catalytic conversions of aliphatic alcohols to isoalkanes C8 or C10. Isoalkanes C8 or C10 are prepared by contacting aliphatic alcohol isobutanol or isopentanol in inert gas medium at 300-420 C, under pressure 30-80 atm, at volume rate 0.1-0.8 C8 with catalytic composition comprising hydride phase of iron-titanium intermetallic compound modified with metals of IV-VII groups of Periodic system of the elements and industrial alumoplatinum or alumonickel catalyst taken in the mass ratio = 10:1.
