FIELD: polymer materials. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for preparing water dispersions of (meth)acrylic polymers applicable in varnish-and-paint industry, papermaking, construction, and other areas. Invention aims to prepare (co)polymer dispersions providing protective properties of coatings based thereon during a long service time while preserving decorative and consumer properties. Aim is achieved by using two-component emulsifier in combination with stepwise water emulsion polymerization process preceded by deaeration of water phase. Emulsifiers utilized are the following: anionic of the formula R-O-(CH₂-CH₂-O)_n]_m-PO₃Me_(3-m) wherein Me is K, Na, NH₄ R is C₉-C₁₈-alkyl; n=3-30, m=1 or 2 at ratio of mono- to disubstituted phosphates (1.0-1.6):1; and nonionic of the formula R-O-(CH₂-CH₂-O)_nH wherein R is C₉-C₁₈-alkyl and n=3-30.
